Srinagar, Sat, 18 August 2012: Fishermen eking their livelihood by working in Wullar lake in Bandipora-Sopore has said that Indian Navy marine commandos (Marcos) of harassing them on baseless pretexts.

Thousands of villagers dwell on the banks of world famous water body and considered as Asia’s 2nd largest fresh water lake get their livelihood by fishing or by collecting water chestnuts from the lake every day.

Rajouri DM fails to submit report on unmarked graves

Srinagar, August 14, 2012: The Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Commission has given the District Magistrate, Rajouri, Saugat Biswas, a three-week ultimatum to submit his report on the presence of unmarked graves in Rajouri district.

The Jammu and Kashmir regime led by Omar Abdullah and police have already filed their reports in response to a petition related to such graves in Jammu and Kashmir, specially in Rajouri and Poonch.

Local Imam shot at in Rajouri, injured, Indian troops killed civilian

Srinagar, August 15, 2012: A local Imam was injured after shot at by unknown gunmen at Kotranka area in Rajouri district, late this evening.

Muhammad Taj, Imam of a local Masjid at Kotranka in Rajouri district was sustained bullet injuries in his left leg when unidentified gunmen fired upon him from a close range in Kotranka village late Wednesday evening, official sources told Global News Service.

The Imam was immediately rushed to nearby hospital for treatment. However, his condition is stated to be stable, sources said.

Srinagar, July 7, 2012: The mysterious killing of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, 28, in Indian sate Andhra Pradesh (AP) sparked protests and clashes in his native village Soozath Narbal in Baramulla district, injuring many protesters including a police officer. The clashes erupted between agitating youth, police and CRPF on Saturday morning when locals blocked Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Narbal crossing after they came to know that Asharaf has been killed in Andhra Pradesh. The protesters were demanding airlifting of Ashraf’s body.

Major Avtar Singh of the Indian Territorial Army, the prime accused in the 1996 custodial murder of rights activist and lawyer Jaleel Andrabi, was a much feared figure for the locals. He reportedly committed suicide at his Fresno house in the US before shooting his wife and three children on June 10.
