Cops in mufti thrash mentally challenged youth

Jammu, May 5, 2011: Policemen in mufti beat up a mentally challenged youth at Nai Basti Morh near the auto-rikshaw stand in Jammu. Instead of helping him to a hospital or uniting him with his family, a group of five to six policemen in civvies thrashed the youth, who was apparently stranded in the area.

Youth’s illegal detention leaves Srinagar family in despair

24-yr-old youth killed in Sopore violence

Srinagar, May 01: On Saturday evening April 30, a street vendor, Shams-ud-din Mir, 24, alias Jana son of Muhammad Shaban Mir was killed by unidentified gunmen at Chankhan in Sopore town.

The gunmen fired upon from a close range and killed a cloth vendor identified as Shamsudin Mir, 24, alias Jana son of Muhammad Shaban Mir at Chankhan area of the town.

Shams-ud-din, 24, a street vendor was rushed to Sopore hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Local Police said that he was footpath vendor and they registered the case and started investigation

HRC indicts BSF personnel for civilian’s custodial disappearance in Kashmir

Srinagar, April 27: The Human Rights Commission sponsored by the authorities in Kashmir has urged the authorities to take action against the troops of Border Security Force  for subjecting  Muhammad Shafi Chopan of Budgam, to enforced disappearance in 1990.

The Commission quoting Naza Bano, sister of Muhammad Shafi Chopan, said that the Chopan was taken into custody by the BSF on July 7, 1990 at Dhobiwan Tangmarg and since then his whereabouts were not known.

4 months on, police fails to trace abducted woman

Srinagar, April 27: Police has failed to make any breakthrough in the kidnapping case of the mother by five children by government gunmen at Chittibandi in Bandipore.

“Even after four months of the kidnapping of Bibi Jan, the police has neither recovered her nor arrested the prime suspect,” the family told media men, adding the authorities were not making enough efforts to trace her and nab the culprits.

Civilian’s killing sparks protest in Rafiabad, 10 injured

Srinagar, April 25: Killing of 30-year old man by unidentified persons triggered protests and clashes at Rafiabad in Baramulla district on Monday. At least 10 persons were injured when police and paramilitary CRPF personnel resorted to baton charge and fired teargas shells to quell massive protests.

The 30-year-old Muhammad Ashraf Lone son of Abdur Rashid Lone of Chatipora, Rafiabad, Rafiabad was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Hail-Jageer on Sunday evening. Ashraf, a teacher at a local Madrassa, had reportedly gone missing on Thursday.

Police men beat up media persons

Srinagar, April 22, 2011: Police today prevented some local photo journalists from discharging their professional duty during the protest at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar and also beat them up.

Husband axes pregnant wife to death in Baramulla Kashmir

Srinagar, 22 April 2011: A man axed his pregnant wife to death in Uri in Baramulla district. Javed Ahmad Naik killed his 22-year-old wife, Nasreena Begum, by striking at her neck with an axe late last night, the police sources said. A police spokesman said a case has been registered against Naik. The motive of murder was not immediately known.
