16 years on, Sailan Poonch massacre survivors recount horror, delay in justice

Srinagar, August 04 : On the 16th anniversary of massacre of Sailan in Poonch district, the relatives of the victims decried inordinate delay in justice and vowed to continue their struggle for bringing the culprits to book.
The relatives, mostly survivors of the brutal massacre, in which 19 people including 11 children of three families were killed by four Special Police Officers (SPOs) and personnel of 9 Paratroopers of Indian Army on intervening night of August 3-4, recounted the incident with tearful eyes during a press conference in Srinagar.

Human rights activist’s detention and paranoia

Srinagar, May 29, 2011 :  Well-known  Indian human rights activist Gautam Navlakha was detained at Srinagar International Airport on his arrival there on Saturday May 29. He was not allowed to enter the city, and was served an order under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Core (CRPC). Navlakha, who’s a frequent visitor to Kashmir but was there this time on a personal visit along with a friend, was asked to return to Delhi. Since return flights had already departed for the day, Navlakha was detained at the airport. He is to return on May 29.

Unidentified gunmen killed a civilian in Sopore

Sopore,  July 24, 2011 : A civilian was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Sopore.  Unidentified gunmen appeared in Kralteng areas of Sopore around 9 pm and opened at least five rounds from point blank range on a man identified as Mohsin Ahmad Wani, 35, son of Manzoor Wani of Jalalabad, Sopore. He was shot in the head, abdomen and shoulder by the assailants suffered serious injuries in the attack. He was rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The slain is said to be a shopkeeper. After the attack, the gunmen fled from the spot.
