550 landmine victims of Poonch district: 10-yr-old boy loses eye, hands in a landmine blast

Srinagar, June 19: Ashiq Hussain (10) who had to pay a heavy price due to the unresolved Kashmir dispute has lost both hands and an eye in a landmine blast planted by Indian army near his home in Khardi Karmara village about 6 km from Poonch near the LoC and he may go completely blind as the second eye is also seriously injured.

Saturday, 18 June 2011: In Srinagar, the Human Rights Commission has indicted Indian Army for the custodial killing of a civilian and later claiming him as a militant in Handwara tehsil of the Kupwara district seventeen years ago.

In a Judgement passed on March, 7, 2011,Chairperson of the commission, Justice (Retd) M Y Kawoosa observed “Troopers of 14th Punjab Dogra Regiment took Surya Chichi for interrogation where he died in custody due to torture on 8th August, 1994.”

Srinagar, June 02, 2011: Unidentified Indian Army personnel entered three hotels in the dead of the night in Leh and harassed local and foreign tourists, without any reason.
Daily news papers in Srinagar aid that the incident took place during the intervening night of May 30 and 31 when the troopers of 3 Division deployed at Kharu in Leh area of Ladakh region barged into Hotel Masarovar, Holiday Inn and Keddar Guest House. “The troops were carrying weapons and wearing uniforms, questioned the tourists,” it added.

Student girl ends life due to police harassment in Doda

Doda, May 29, 2011: A 24-year girl student committed suicide by jumping into Chenab in Pul Doda area on Sunday after she was harassed by a Police official. The deceased was a B.Ed student of Islamia Education and Research Institute Kishtwar. Rahida Banoo daughter of Abdul Rafiq Rather resident of Bhalessa reportedly jumped into river Chenab near Pul Doda after a Police official harassed her, while she was in a tea stall along with his college friend.

Girl misbehaved by CRPF trooper in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sunday, 29 May 2011: The molestation bid by a paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper sparked off protests at on Sunday. Reports said that a CRPF trooper tried to molest a woman (name with held), leading to protest by people who were present near Jahangir Chowk in Srinagar.

The paramilitary personnel of CRPF eve-teased and attempted to molest a girl and misbehaved at this evening, eyewitness said.

Police stop detained, activist Gautam naulakha in Srinagar airport

Srinagar, May 28, 2011:Police personnel arrested the prominent Indian human rights activist, Gautam Naulakha, at Srinagar Airport, today.
Noted human rights activist and writer, Gautam Navlakha was stopped at Airport in Srinagar by the police from visiting the Valley.

“Police officials handed over a formal order issued by the district magistrate. I have been deported back,” Navlakha told media men.

Father, son killed by unknown gunmen in Handwara

Srinagar, May 28: Unidentified gunmen barged into the house of one farmer Ghulam Rasool Mir (55 years) son of Late Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Mir Mohalla Bawan in Rajwar area of Handwara at 10:10 pm and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates in which Ghulam Rasool Mir (55 years) and his son a teacher Manzoor Ahmed (29 years) was killed.

Victim’s family challenge authority allegation

Srinagar, May 07: The family members of Rafiq Ahmed Bangroo, killed by Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel during 2010 uprising, have condemned the authorities for trying to shield the killers and malign the deceased under false and fake charges.
