4 months on, police fails to trace abducted woman

Srinagar, April 27: Police has failed to make any breakthrough in the kidnapping case of the mother by five children by government gunmen at Chittibandi in Bandipore.

“Even after four months of the kidnapping of Bibi Jan, the police has neither recovered her nor arrested the prime suspect,” the family told media men, adding the authorities were not making enough efforts to trace her and nab the culprits.

“We met the senior functionaries in the police and administration and narrated them the whole incident, but to no avail,” Jan’s husband Shafi Bania said.

“We filed a petition in High Court which directed the Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipore to ensure recovery of a kidnapped woman,” the family said, adding the Court also directed the SHO concerned to provide status report of the FIR lodged in the case. “It is unfortunate that police in response to court direction said that Bibi Jan has been kidnapped by militants, which is a fabricated story,” Shafi Said.

Shafi said, “My wife was kidnapped by two masked men when she was taking the livestock for grazing in the nearby pastures.”

Five children of ‘kidnapped’ Bibi Jan aren’t going to school following the incident.  “We are facing immense hardships due to the absence of our mother,” elder daughter of Bibi Jan, Shakeela said.
