Respected Sir,
Residents of Ahmad Nagar located on the outskirts of Jammu and Kashmir summer capital, Srinagar, Thursday filed a complaint with the police after a fierce gunfight raged in the locality.
Refuting the police claims, the residents said that no militant was present in the area when the Special Operations Group (SOG) of JK Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers showered bullets on deserted residential houses; damaging windowpanes and inflicted heavy losses to a shawl weaving centre.
Pertinently, SOG, CRPF and police from Soura police station cordoned off Ahmed Nagar area on Wednesday evening on ‘specific information’ regarding presence of militants in the area.
Chairman Coordination Committee, Ahmed Nagar, Bashir Ahmed Khan said government forces cordoned off Ahmed Sahib Batwari (RA) Shrine and the family members of the houses adjacent to the shrine were asked to vacate the their house.
We heard gunshots and explosions that created panic in the area. We can tell you with authority that there was no militant present in the area. In forces action, houses got damaged and the owner of a shawl weaving centre incurred heavy losses,” he said.
Khan added: houses of Gulzar Ahmed Batwari and Muhammad Sultan Batwari were completely damaged.
Scores of residents tried to come out on roads in Batwari Mohalla of seeking inquiry into the ‘incident’, however, respectable citizens of the area stopped them and instead lodged a complaint in police station Soura against the ‘unprovoked action’ by forces.
We lodged a complaint while the police officials in Soura police station assured us that they would look into the matter,” Khan said.
He said the reports of policemen getting injured during the gunfight were doubtful. “As a civilian we have right to know about the details of the operation. If a militant was present there, how he escaped. The residents of Batwari Mohalla know it well that no militant was present in the area,” he said.

A top police official said the area was cordoned off after the reports that militants were present there. “Some of the policemen suffered injuries while the militants managed to escape. The residents of the area are unaware about the facts,” he said.
Prayed
The Human Rights Commission has been established in the J&K State to the international pressure and the sole propose of the commission was to check the Human Rights abuses in Kashmir now when the commission has done commendable job and checked the abuses by the Police and other forces to some extend.
