Protests against arrest of civilians in Sopore, Shopian

Srinagar, April 22: People staged protests against the arrest and atrocities of Indian armed forces in Sopore town. The protesters said that police raided number of residences during night and arrested at least 15 youngsters.
Police used brute force and fired bullets at Main Chowk when protesters raised anti-India slogans and demanded release of the youth. 
Meanwhile, protest strike continued for the second consecutive day, today, against the arrest of youths in Shopian. Dozens of youths were arrested in Shopian in past one week. Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic also remained off the roads.

Reports said that Shopian town observed complete shutdown against the arrest spree. Protestors clashed with police and CRPF personnel while police used tear smoke shells to disperse them. Residents told CNS that during nocturnal raids in different areas of Shopian town, police arrested at least 15 youth.
“People staged a protest during night against the arrest spree while CRPF personnel thrashed the protestors and damaged the window panes of dozens of houses,” a resident of Bonabazar Shopian Muhammad Hamad said.
