Srinagar, Nov 4, 2019: A 40- year-old toy seller was killed and 45 othersincluding 10 women were injured in a grenade explosion rocked the busy Hari Singh High street (HSHS) near city Centre Lal Chowk in Sriangar on Monday. Eye witnesses told media men the blast occurred at 1.20 pm IST when the market was crowded with shoppers and vendors. More than 42 people received splinter injuries in the incident. They were rushed to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar where an Indian citizen 40-year- old toy seller Rinku Kumar of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh India, succumbed to his injuries.
At SMHS hospital there was chaos after 39 people reached there with injuries and one of them was stated to be critical. He has been identified as Fayaz Ahmed.
Some of the other injured have been identified as Suhail Ahmad of Qamarwari, Nazira of Bohri Kadal, Hameeda of Srinagar, Naseera of Srinagar, Bilal Ahmad of Safa Kadal, Varun Preet Singh of Aloocha Bagh, Shifali Kour of Aloocha Bagh, Omar of Hari Singh High Street, Feroz of Lasjin, Fahmeeda of Srinagar, Imran of Shaheed Gunj, Taiba of Srinagar, Maimoona of Srinagar, Abdul Hameed Daga of Srinagar, Mohammad Iqbal Hajam of Srinagar, Mohammad Yaseen of Srinagar, Abid Shagoo of Bemina, Muzaffar Ahmad of Srinagar, Rauf Ahmad of Srinagar, Abdul Hameed of Nawa Kadal, Rizwan of Safa Kadal, Adnan of Srinagar, Shahid of Chadoora Budgam, Danish of Noorbagh, Ajaz Ahmad of Chanpora, Mehrajudin of Baba Demb, Mohammad Yusuf of Noorbagh and Rubeena of Srinagar.
Dr Nazir Ahmad Choudhary, Medical Superintended of SMHS hospital, said condition of two injured is critical. “Around 41 injured were brought to our hospital. Two of them are critical,” he said.
A doctor at SMHS said those with minor injuries could be discharged after the treatment.
“Blood tests and ultrasonography have been done on the patients injured in the blast. Those who have minor injuries will be discharged,” he said.
Panic gripped the area after the blast with people running helter skeltor for safety.
“I am bus driver and had not worked for the past three months. Today my son took out his cart to sell goods in the market. Look what has happened,” said Mohammad Sidiq, father of the injured vendor Danish Ahmad
Imran Khan, a UP based key maker who was injured in the blast, said grenade was lobbed at a place where people in large numbers were present. “A stampede followed. Several people were injured. Blood was oozing out of people faces, arms and legs,” he said.
The injured included three Indian para-military force personnel from the SSB personnel .
