Srinagar, March 24. 2014: The family of a Kashmiri youth, Muhammad Rafiq Shah, who is detained in New Delhi’s Tihar jail since 2005, has said that he has been attacked and seriously injured in an assault by criminal elements in the jail.
The family members talking to a Srinagar-based news agency said that the jail authorities had given the assailants free hand to attack their son and other Kashmiri detainees. They said that besides him, other Kashmiri inmates had also been attacked inside Tihar jail and no serious efforts had been made by the authorities so far to prevent recurrence of such incidents. “The jail authorities are acting like a mute spectator and are not taking steps to prevent these attacks,” they added.
Family of Rafiq Ahmad Shah, a youth detained in Tihar Jail since 2005, has said that the other inmates, mostly criminals, have attacked and injured him seriously.
Shah’s family accused that he, besides other inmates, has been attacked inside the fortified jail and that no serious effort from the authorities to prevent such incidents has been taken so far.
