Kashmir hospitals run without life saving drugs in Srinagar

Srinagar 6, 2019 : The Kashmir hospitals who are facing short of life saving drugs, the attendants said that they are being forced to purchase life saving drugs from open market on exorbitant rates.  Reports said that life-saving drugs for diabetes, heart and cancer patients are short in Kashmir Valley, with many foreboding a medical emergency if no supplies arrive in the next few days. The normal life continues to remain badly affected in the Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu  as unprecedented and inhuman lockdown entered 94th consecutive day, today.
Restrictions under Section 144 remain enforced and hundreds of thousands of Indian forces’ personnel are present in every nook and corner of occupied Kashmir, adding to the fear and anxiety of the people
A couple of attendants said that Medical Superintendent SMHS Hospital in Srinagar told them categorically that they don’t have any budget right now to procure life saving drugs. “We were aghast over the response of the Medical Superintendent. Patients are suffering immensely while poor are unable to get the desire drugs,” they said.
They said that it is a wrong notion that clampdown has caused a shortage of life-saving drugs. “The fact is that the hospital authorities are unwilling to procure these drugs for the reasons known to them.” The Super Specialty hospital adjacent to SMHS at Shereen Bagh is also short of life saving drugs, said a group of attendants.
.Meanhile, as train service continued to remain suspended for the 94nd day on  Wednesday, the Railway department has suffered a loss of over Rs 2.76 crore in Kashmir valley, where shutdown against scrapping of Article 370 and Article 35 A entered 14th week.
Official sources said not a single train operated in Kashmir valley  since August 5 .
“We were running a number of trains since morning till late in the evening between Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north,” they said, adding that similarly trains were also operating between Badgam-Srinagar-Islamabad (Anantnag) and Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
However, they said after receiving advisory from the divisional administration and police, all train runs were suspended, adding railway service will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the authorities. Official source said due to suspension of trains the railway department has suffered a loss of over Rs 2.76 crore since August 5.
