Srinagar, February 11: Indian army in a shoot out martyred a 60-yr-old Kashmiri in Baramulla district. The aged Kashmiri Sarfraz Ahmad Mir, 60, son of Sain Mir of Kundibarjala Kamalkote Uri. was killed by Indian army in a shoot out operation in Uri area of the Barmulla district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Soon after the information, a team of Uri police rushed to the spot and recovered the body . The victim was later laid to rest in the unknown Uri graveyard which is under Indian army where thousands of Kashmiris have been buried in the past.
On the other hand, with 45 fresh cases,Covid-19 tally climbed to 1,25,052 on Wednesday, while one more fatality pushed the death toll due to the disease to 1,945 , officials said. Six of the fresh Covid cases were reported from the Jammu division, while 39 from Kashmir. Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 23 cases, they added.
While eight districts did not report any fresh Covid case, 11 other districts recorded fresh cases in single digits. The number of active Covid-19 cases had risen to 605 Jammu region and Kashmir valley, the officials said. —
Meanwhile, normal life was affected in Kashmir on Thursday due to a shutdown to mark the 37th death anniversary of Kashmiri liberation leader Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on this day in 1984, officials said.
Shops, fuel stations and other business establishments were shut in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, while public transport was largely off the roads, they officials said.
Indian forces were deployed in strength in the city and elsewhere in the valley , the officials added.
Also, posters, purportedly issued by Hurriyat Conference and other parties, were pasted in areas of the city, calling for a shutdown on Tuesday and Thursday.
