Srinagar, May 17, 2014: A policeman of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 13th Battalion raped  a girl  at Aadipora in Kunzer area of Baramulla district. A policeman of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 13th Battalion was Saturday arrested and charged with rape and abetment of suicide after a teenage girl ended her life by consuming some poisonous substance in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Residents of the area said that that the girl, who had come to her relative’s home in Aatipora, was raped by a constable of Indian Reserve Police Force posted in the area. The constable, the residents said, had barged into the girl’s residence and raped her last night.
The girl who raised alarm that the constable raped her later consumed poison and was taken to a hospital, but she died at 3 a.m.,” sources said. Police sources said the constable was caught in a compromising position by her brother-in-law at Aadipora last night.
The residents said that the teenager had developed medical complications. “She was shifted to a local hospital, but was referred to SMHS hospital where she died,” they said. 
Soon after the news of death spread, the people took to streets and held strong protest demonstrations. They had brought her body to Kunzar and blocked Srinagar-Gulmarg road. However, police burst tear smoke shells and dispersed the protestors. Later, postmortem was conducted and the body was handed over to family for burial.
The angry protesters said that the girl had come to her brother-in-law’s home at Aadipora in Kunzer area of Baramulla district. “She was raped by Zahoor Hussain of IR 13th battalion of IRP. She developed medical complications and later died in a hospital,” the protesters said.
Police fired teargas to disperse a group of people who were protesting the death of the girl due to medical complications after raped by the IRP man. 
On the other hand, Police today arrested an Indian Reserve Police man on charges of rape of a girl who died in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district last night. The IRP man was posted at Baiwah in Kunzar to guard minority community.  A police spokesman said that an FIR No. 24/2014 under Section 457,376,511 and 306 RPC has been registered against the accused constable and the constable has been arrested.
 A police spokesman added that Constable Zahoor Hussain of IRP 13th Battalion was arrested and a case under various Sections of Ranbir Panel code, including 376 (rape), 306 (abetment of suicide) and 457 (house-breaking by night) was registered against him.
