Indian forces beat up people, ransack residential property in Budgam

Srinagar, May 9, 2020:  People held forceful demonstrations in Pulwama, Badgam and tried other areas of Kashmir valley against the killing of Riyaz Naikoo and other Kashmiri youth by Indian troops, paramilitary and police personnel. Indian police and paramilitary personnel subjected the protesters to brute force and firing of pellets and bullets, injuring several of them. Residents in Budgam said that Indian Army entered into the village in night raid on Friday and started vandalizing property. They also arrested locals.

Meanwhile, the occupation authorities continued to impose restrictions in the Kashmir Valley on the 4th consecutive day, today, to prevent people from holding demonstrations against the killings. The restrictions were imposed by the authorities on Wednesday, the day when Indian troops martyred Riyaz Naikoo and his associate, Aadil Ahmed. The authorities also continued to keep Beighpora, the native village of Riyaz Naikoo in Pulwama district, sealed to prevent people from visiting his house and expressing solidarity with his family. Cellular and internet services remain suspended in Pulwama district while SMS and mobile internet connectivity is snapped in the entire valley.
Indian troops launched a cordon and search operation in Matipora Nainal area of Islamabad district, today. The troops also conducted a similar operation at Karewa Shadab in Shopian district.
Hours after a police officer and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) were injured in clashes with protestors in Nasrullah Pora village of Budgam on Friday, the locals said the combined forces of vandalizing property and arresting of innocent people.
 
Local residents said that combined forces, including Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police personnel entered into the village at about 11:30 pm on Friday night and started vandalizing public property, reported KNT.
 
“The forces damaged parked vehicles, shops, and gates of the houses. They barged into the houses and damaged my JCB, LeD TV, washing machine, refrigerator, Maruti Alto, and other things,” said a local resident. “They spared only a few households and created havoc in almost in the home.”
 
Another local said that the indian  forces personnel arrested people at random during the night raid. “Even elderly people were not spared and arrested,” he added.
 
On Friday, as per local residents, a police officer had barged into Jamia Masjid in Mir Mohalla and asked the people to disperse without offering the prayers. 
 
“Some of the youth lost [their] cool and they protest against  the police officer ,” he said.
 
“We have migrated to other villages. Only women folk are present in the houses,” said the locals.
 
Tthe authorities continue to keep sealed Beighpora, the native village of top martyred commander, Riyaz Naikoo, in Pulwama to prevent people from visiting his house and expressing solidarity with his family.
Indian troops and police personnel remain deployed in every nook and corner of Beighpora since the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday when the forces’ personnel had launched a cordon and search operation in the area. Riyaz Naikoo along with an associate, Aadil Ahmed, was martyred by the troops on Wednesday.
Fearing massive participation of people in the funeral prayers of the martyred, the Indian police didn’t hand over the dead bodies to their families and instead took them to Sonamarg in Ganderbal and buried them secretly.
One person was killed and dozens other were injured in the firing of bullets, pellets and teargas shells by Indian troops on the demonstrations in the area against the killing of Riyaz Naikoo.
Spools of concertina wires have been laid and barricades erected at all entry points leading towards Beighpora. Heavy contingents of occupational forces are deployed even in the paddy fields and all along the railway tracks.
Locals told media that Indian forces’ personnel are still deployed inside the village to prevent people from visiting Naikoo’s family for solidarity.
Indian police have arrested scores of youth during house raids for participating in demonstrations in the area against the killing of Naikoo and his associate.
The occupation authorities also continue to suspend cellular and internet services in Pulwama district.
Indian officials have stopped handing over the bodies of Kashmiri youth killed by Indian forces .
Instead, they are being buried in unmarked graves.
