NEW DELHI September 16, 202 : In India, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths on Thursday conducted a raid on the office and home of a prominent human rights activist and former IAS officer,Harsh Mander in New Delhi. The raid, according to The Quint, came hours after Mander and his wife left for Germany for a nine-month fellowship offered by Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin.
The ED officials raided his home in Vasant Kunj, his Centre for Equity Studies office, and the children’s home Mander runs in Mehrauli. Reportedly no one was at home when the ED officials reached there. His daughter who also lives in Delhi later arrived.
According to The Tribune newspaper, the ED conducted a raid after Delhi Police filed an FIR against the former National Advisory Council member under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Mander also runs a civil society initiative, Karwan-e- Mohabbat which he started in 2017 to combat communal violence.Shabnam Hashmi, a fellow civil society activist, said she “strongly condemns” the raid. agencies
