Pithoragarh,September 3, 2022: A Dalit political activist was beaten to death, allegedly by his in-law in Indian state Uttarakhand for marrying an upper-caste girl. The couple had previously written to the administration, requesting security.
According to police, a Dalit man was allegedly killed by his in-laws for marrying an upper-caste woman in Uttarakhand's Almora district.
He was killed with blunt objects such as batons.Earlier, the couple had sought protection from the police.
Jagdish Chandra (39), a Dalit political activist from Panuadhokhan village, was found dead in a car in Bhikiasain town on Friday, Salt sub-division tehsildar Nisha Rani said.
His body bore 25 wounds, she said, adding it appears he was killed using blunt objects like batons.
Chandra's wife's mother, her step-father and her step-brother were caught while taking his body in the car to dispose of it, Rani said, adding they were immediately placed under arrest.
The couple had got married on August 21 and Chandra was allegedly abducted by his in-laws on Thursday from Shilapani Bridge, Rani said.
