Srinagar, December 4 : Several parts of Srinagar city, remained under curfew imposed by the authorities for the seventh consecutive day, today.
Curfew continued in Zadibal, Hawal, Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Gojwara, Fateh Kadal and Urdu Bazaar areas, a police spokesman said.
On the other hand, dozens of youth have left their homes since Tuesday, fearing arrest by police. Police are arresting the youth randomly. They (police) are arresting youth who they suspected were involved in protests, when Indian police foiled the Muharram processions,” said the residents of Nawakadal. “The police who raided our house many times; harassing us,” said a resident of Hawal.
According to official sources, heavy contingents of Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and policemen were deployed in these areas to thwart any attempt of disruption of peace. The forces had laid razor wire and erected barricades at roads and junctions to stop movement of people and traffic. Armored vehicles were also seen at road junctions. Joint parties of police and Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force were seen patrolling the streets of curfew-bound areas.
