CAA is an anti-people political tool: Says Socialist Party India

New Delhi, March 29:  The Socialist Party India  (SPI) has  condemned the NRC-CAA project as an anti-people political tool that undermines the rights and citizenship of Indian citizens mostly the Muslim community in India.  Socialist Party (India) in a statement issued  in New Delhi has highlighted the persisting concerns regarding destabilisation of the Northeast region and the discriminatory impact on Muslim citizens has urged  all Indians to unite in protest against the newly proposed amendment rules.

“The CAA remains a pernicious piece of legislation, and we continue to strongly oppose it,” stated the Socialist Party (India) in its latest declaration.
The SPI reaffirmed its staunch opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), asserting that the controversial legislation remains deeply flawed and unconstitutional.
“Every citizen of India will be presumed to be non-citizen and impacted, but Muslim citizens more so,” the statement highlighted, echoing concerns raised by activist Farah Naqvi regarding the erosion of citizenship rights.
Emphasising the gravity of the situation, the party underscored two primary reasons for its unwavering opposition: the inevitable instability in the Northeast regions and the alarming differential impact it would have, particularly on Muslim citizens.
Referring to the historical context of legislative enactments, the statement cautioned against the potential misuse of power by ruling BJP governments in the future. “Indian legislative history is replete with laws which were passed with strident but minimal opposition, only to be unleashed viciously by the ruling governments of the future – against its own citizens,” the SPI remarked, highlighting the dangers inherent in the implementation of the CAA.
Critically analysing the newly proposed CAA rules, the Socialist Party (India) expressed grave concerns over their potential ramifications, particularly in exacerbating ethnic divisions in Assam and other Northeastern distrubed states. “The CAA rules seek to treat Hindu and Muslim National Register of Citizens (NRC) negatively-impacted peoples differentially, dangerously skewing the balance of already fragile ethnic divisions in Assam,” the statement asserted.
The SPI spokesperson Manoj Sarang emphasised the detrimental effects of the CAA on both Muslim and Hindu populations, urging all Indians to unite against the divisive ideology propagated by the government. “Muslims will bear the brunt of this, but India’s vast Hindu population will also suffer collateral damage,” Sarang cautioned, urging citizens to resist the erosion of their rights.
In a call to action, the Socialist Party (India) called upon all Indians, especially social media influencers, to join hands in protesting against the CAA Amendment rules. “SPI has asked all Indians to come together and protest the CAA Amendment rules, especially social media persons,” the statement concluded, urging a unified stance against the legislation perceived as detrimental to the fabric of Indian society.
