Assam Police arrested 14 Muslims including one MBBS student on favouring for "Supporting Taliban govt in Afghanistan" On Social Media

 Guwahati, August 21 , 2021: In Indian, Assam Police arrested fourteen Muslims were arrested from across Assam for alleged social media posts supporting the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, police said on Saturday.   Police officials said the they booked them under different sections of the black laws Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, IT Act and the CrPC. "A total of 14 people have been arrested so far in 11 districts of Assam, which includes one MBBS student of Hailakandi, studying in Tezpur Medical college, and two others," a senior police official added. 

While some directly supported Taliban government, some of them criticised Indian media for propagation against Taliban, the report said.
 Those arrested were caught on the radar of the Assam Police's Cyber Cell that keeps constant vigil on social media networks; sources have said. The Special Branch (SB) of Assam police is overseeing the operation. The arrested include

Two people each were arrested from Kamrup Metropolitan, Barpeta, Dhubri and Karimganj districts, police said.
 One person each was arrested from Darrang, Cachar, Hailakandi, South Salmara, Goalpara and Hojai districts, the police said. 
Deputy Inspector General Violet Baruah said the Assam Police is taking stern legal action against pro-Taliban comments on social media that he claimed are harmful to them. agencies
