Srinagar, December 22, 2019: A 65-year old member of Jamat-e-Islamia Jammu and Kashmir died in Naini central jail Allahabad Jail in Indiaon Saturday who was detained by authorities under draconian law Public Safety Act (PSA) in July , 2019 and was shifted to Allahabad Jail,in India. The victim was identified as Ghulam Mohammad Bhat (65) son of Mohammad Sultan Bhat of Kulangam, Handwara.
A family member of the deceased told over phone that Bhat was arrested on July 10 by Police Post Chogal and then shifted to Police Station Mattan, Islamabad. “Two days later, he was shifted to Allahabad Jail India. On Saturday, we were informed by the police about his death,” he said and added family has gone to Allahabad to receive the body of the deceased.
Bhat had been arrested during 2016 unrest under PSA and remained in detention for more than six months. Bhat is survived by his old aged wife, two sons and two daughters.Ghulam Mohammed Bhat, 65, a resident of Kulangam in Handwara in North Kashmir, was detained under the PSA in July this year prior to the abrogation of Article 370 of Constitution.
The PSA slapped on Bhat, an active member of the Jamaat-i-Islamia, was to end on January 9 next year.
. He was buried at his native village Bunpora Kulangam in Handwara area of Kupwara district Sunday evening.
