Srinagar, March 9 2012: Omar Abdullah has admitted and disclosed that there are 36,600 widows, orphans and handicapped persons since the military violence erupted in 1990 in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the survey conducted by Rehabilitation Council of Social Welfare Department in 2007-08, among the victims 8616 were widows and 26086 orphans and 1903 disabled, handicapped persons affected by military related incidents of violence ,said Omar Abdullah gave this breakup in a written reply today.
As per the survey conducted by Rehabilitation Council of Social Welfare Department in 2007-08, among the victims 6345 were widows of civilians and 2266 were widows of militants, MoS Home said in his written reply. “These include 6345 widows of civilians, 6345 widows of militants, 2070 orphans of civilians, 5379 orphans of militants and 1903 disabled/handicapped persons”, he said.
However authorities has no data about the exact number of missing persons and number of cases in which FIRs have been registered. News reports
