Scholar Sharjeel Imam assaulted, called terrorist in jail

 New Delhi, July 05 : Indian scholar and activist Sharjeel Imam has approached a court in New Delhi, saying that he was assaulted in jail and called a terrorist and an anti-national.Hailing from from Kako village of Jehanabad, Bihar, Imam earned fame from his active participation in the Citizenship Amendment Act protests. 
Imam’s counsel Advocate Ahmed Ibrahim moved the application. The application said that on June 30, around 7:30 PM, the Assistant Superintendent along with 8 to 9 convicts came to Imam’s cell in the name of carrying out search. During the said search, his books and clothes were thrown away, he was assaulted and was even called terrorist and anti national.
The application further said that Imam requested the Assistant Superintendent to prevent the said convicts from assaulting him, however he did nothing.”It appeared that the Assistant Superintendent was complicit in the illegal act,” the application said.

The assailants also tried to place to place some contraband in Sharjeel’s possession.
The application was heard by a link judge as Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, before the same was moved, was not available. He issued a notice on the application and posted the matter for hearing on 14 July.
‘House for sale’ poster speaks volume of fear under Yogi Adityanath in UP
Lucknow, July 05: A poster proclaiming ‘House for sale’ in Indian Hindutva-governed Indian state of Utter Pardash indicating the level of fear among citizens particularly minorities from the RSS led BJP government of Yogi Adityanath. The poster  which has started attracting a great deal of attention said that the reason behind the ‘distress sale’ is the ‘fear of police and anti-social elements’ in  Natkur area in Lucknow  city of the state.
The house belongs to a police constable. His wife told reporters that the local police have been implicating her family in false criminal cases at the behest of some anti-social elements. 
The owner of the house Ramdas Prajapati, a Provincial Armed Constabulary constable, is presently posted in Sitapur.“I live in this house with my two sons. Some local goons want to forcibly occupy our house and the local police are helping them by harassing us,” said Pushpa, the wife of the PAC constable.
Muslim shopkeeper arrested for selling chicken in UP, India 
Lucknow, July 05 : A Muslim was arrested for allegedly selling chicken on a piece of paper having pictures of Hindu deities in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. 
The incident took place when some people complained that Talib Hussain was selling chicken at his shop on a piece of paper carrying pictures of Hindu deities in Sambhal area of the state.
Police attacked Hussain, beat him up and arrested him.
It is worth mentioning here that Muslims in India, particularly in Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh are frequently harassed by police and Hindutva gangs on one pretext or another.   
Meanwhile, senior leader of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, A Raja, while addressing an event in presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin warned the Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata party government in New Delhi to provide autonomy to Tamil Nadu state or else the state would opt for compete separation from India as an independent state.
