No Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar on 15th consecutive Friday

Srinagar, November 15,2019 :  No Friday congregational prayers was offered at historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta in Srinagar for the 15th consecutive week.  Normal life across Kashmir Valley remained disrupted on Friday as shops remained closed in most areas while lesser transport was plying on roads. The huge deployment of Indian paramilitary forces and police personnel in Nowhatta and other areas of the Srinagar city.  “No Friday prayers were allowed at Jamia Masjid,” Ishfaq Ahmad, a resident of Nowhatta Srinagar told a local news agency while restrictions were re-imposed in several areas of Srinagar. 

“The boundaries of Jamia Masjid were surrounded by the Indian forces and nobody was permitted to enter the Masjid compound,” he added.Ahead of Friday following Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), Dargah Hazratbal also witnessed little participation of devotees. Reports said though Friday congregational prayers at Dargah Shrine passed on peacefully, participation of devotees witnessed decline. Reports said that security was beefed up around Hazratbal shrine. Schools, colleges and universities across valley continued to be deserted due to the absence of students while thin attendance of teachers and other staff was witnessed in all educational institutions. Barring postpaid mobile and landline phones, communication system including prepaid mobile, broadband and mobile internet continued to remain suspended in Kashmir on 103rd consecutive day.It may be in place to mention that communication system was snapped in the valley on August 4 midnight hours .Reports reaching here from other districts said that life continued to be affected due to shutdown with all markets and private establishments closed and public transport by and large off the roads. The authorities snapped all communication lines landline telephone and mobile phone services and internet across all platforms — on August 5, hours before the Centre announced its decision to abrogate Article 370 and to bifurcate the erstwhile state into two Union territories. agencies
