Kashmir students fear for life after assault at Indian college, protest on Dec 13 against atrocities

Srinagar, 11 December : Kashmiri students who were thrashed by local goons at Global Research Institute of Management and Technology (GRIMT) in India's Haryana fear for their lives after they have again been threatened them.
The injured students from Global Research Institute of Management and Technology (GRIMT) Haryana say they don’t want to attend the college as they are fearing for their lives. “The locals there have informed the Kashmiri girl students there they are not going to spare us in case we attend the college,” an injured student Manzoor Ahmed War from Devar in Kupwara said.
He added that Haryana police and college management are hand in glove with the local goons and they feel helpless and insecure. There are 90 Kashmiri students at the college in Yamuna Nagar district of the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party ruled state. Following the recent attack on these students there, they demand that they should be shifted to some another college. “Today those local goons assaulted us physically but we have apprehension that tomorrow they may kill us,” said another 3rd year student of Civil Engineering.
At least five Kashmir students had received serious wounds when they were attacked after stopping a student from jumping the queue in a mess last week.
A Kashmir student had objected when a student from Jammu jumped the queue. This led to a heated argument between the two, but the matter was sorted out after intervention by senior Kashmiri students. However, after 10 minutes later about 50 goons entered the canteen carrying iron rods and sticks and beat up the Kashmir students ruthlessly.  The injured students were identified as Suhail Rashid Bhat, Sheikh Azaharuddin (Islamabad), Mashoor Ali, Mushtaq Majid (Srinagar), Shahid Wani (Kulgam), Manzoor Var (Kupwara), Tawseef Ahmed, Tanvir Ahmed (Kishtwar).
A group of students who were thrashed said they will stage a protest in Kashmir's city centre on December 13 to attract the attention towards their apathy and helplessness. “We don’t want to go back to Haryana. We appeal to the local administration to get us shifted to some other college as we are scared and fear for our lives,” they said.
They added that goons pointed pistols at them and hit them with swords and iron-rods. They further said that instead of lodging an FIR against the goons, “the police have registered an FIR against them. "It is a murder of law and justice.”
The students appealed the local authority to take up the case with Haryana government at the highest level and ensure security for them. The attack forced about 90 students from the Kashmir to take refuge in a police station overnight.
Pertinently, at least nine Kashmiri students were beaten up with sticks and iron rods by a group of local goons, which forced about 90 students from the Valley to take refuge in a police station overnight. The incident took place when students were queuing up for lunch in the college canteen. (CNS)
