Srinagar, May 03: Indian troops martyred two Kashmiri youth in Kupwara district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, .
The troops martyred the youth during a cordon and search operation in Machil area of the district.
An Indian police official while dubbing them militants claimed the two militants were in search operation which is still going on in the area.
The identity the victim youth was being ascertained, the official added.
On the other hand, the Paris-based Reporters Without Borders in its 2023 World Press Freedom Index, released on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, today, said, the situation is very worrisome in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where reporters are often harassed by police and paramilitaries, with some being subjected to so-called provisional detention for several years. In the list, India under Narendra Modi’s rule dropped from being in a “problematic situation” into the lowest category after it sank 11 places to rank at 161 out of 180 countries. India thus finds itself among the 31 countries where Reporters Without Borders believes the situation for journalists is “very serious”.
