Indian army killed a youth in custody: said locals in Kupwara

Srinagar, April 16, 2011:  Indian troops killed a youth in custody in Kupwara district.
The people who took to the streets and refused to bury the body said that the youth was killed in a fake encounter by18 Rashtriya Rifles at Lalpora in the district. The locals said that they heard some gunshots in the paddy fields of Lalpora in the midnight. In the morning on Saturday, army men brought a body from the fields and handed it over to police,” they said.  “I saw the body and it was having some gunshot wounds. However, there was not much blood on the spot, where the troops claimed encounter had taken place,” said a local resident.

He said police asked people to bury the body. “However, the locals refused and put the body in Lalpora main chowk for identification.  We informed a family of Uri, Baramulla, whose boy had gone missing few years back in the area. The body resembles with that of the missing youth,” he said.

“We called the family of the missing boy to identify the body and took possession of it in case it belongs to their missing son,” the locals said.

On the other hand, dead body of on Muhammad Amin Ganaie son-in-law of Ghulam Muhammad Khan resident of Watto, Kulgam working as a driver in Irrigation Department was found in suspicious circumstances in his personal Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK13-2032 at Aharbal, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Damhal Hanjipora.  The body of the deceased was handed over to his family members.
