Srinagar, August 22, 2012: A missing civilian was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in Gandoh in Doda district with people holding protests against the Special Operations Group personnel for the killing.
"The body of the missing man identified as Mushtaq Ali alias Mohammad Issaq, son of Muskeen Ali, resident of village Tainsa Bamo Dhansar Dhadkai, tehsil Gandoh was found near Barsi Dhar area," police said.
Local people held a massive protest demonstration in Gandoh demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and registration of murder case against the involved personnel of SPO’S.
Protests continued for the second consecutive day on August 23 in this far off area of Doda district following killing of a youth by two Special Police Officers (SPOs).
Thousands of people from various villages of Gandoh- Bhallessa tehsil of the district took to streets on Thursday said that the police and district administration of inaction and attempt to shield the involved men in uniform, who killed a Gujjar youth in broad day light.
As per the reports, a youth identified as Mushtaq Ahmed son of Muskin Ali, was killed by the SPOs in his Dhok on Tuesday.
A complete shutdown was also observed and tension gripped several villages and tehsil headquarters Gundoh for the second consecutive day.
Reports revealed that the assailants barged inside the Dhok (temporary hut) of Mushtaq Ahmed at Gaschar Darmi and abducted him on gunpoint. The victim was taken to nearby area and hanged to death.
The report of the killing spread like a wildfire in several villages of tehsil Gundoh and residents of Kahara, Gundoh, Batiyas, Guwadi, Bathri took to streets and at Akhiyarpur seeking immediate action against the culprit.
They blocked vehicular movement on Thatri-Kilotran road for more than five hours.
"We are investigating the matter as the cause of death is yet to be ascertained," Arif Rishu, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Doda claimed.
SSP Doda Arif Reshu said body of the victim was recovered today from upper reaches of Gandoh. It was a suspected case of murder and some suspects have been rounded up for questioning to ascertain reasons behind the killing, he added. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Mr Reshu said investigations were being conducted into the case after registration of a FIR at Gandoh police station.
