Srinagar, Jun, 09, 2017 : A 12th class student Sameer Ahmad is  still battling for life in the Intensive Care Unit at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar. The 17-year-old student from Khulchuhar-Mattan in Islamabad district,  was shot at by  Indian paramilitary  forces on 28 May  when Sabzar Ahmad  Bhat was killed in Tral. The doctors treating Sameer at SMHS hospital in Srinagar said that the skull bone of Sameer has suffered severe damage due to the bullet that has penetrated into his brain. “He (Sameer) had a firearm injury in his head and is suffering from hematoma. A little movement of his eyes was observed in the last few days but he still remains in critical condition,” said a doctor.
Sameer, a Class 12 student, joined a student protest at his school, the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Mattan. His fellow students said that they were peacefully protesting inside the school premises when Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers without any provocation started firing teargas shells, pellets and bullets at them.“The troopers from the nearby CRPF camp barged into the school premises and roughed up the students, including girls and faculty. One of the female teachers was injured after being hit by a stone thrown by CRPF men,” a student said.
He said that Sameer was standing with his friends when the Indian paramilitary CRPF troops fired bullets at him. “When the forces saw the group of students standing separately, they target fired at the group. A bullet hit Sameer’s head,” the student said.
